The steps to becoming certified or credentialed to qualify to insert midline catheters is to first take a reputable midline insertion education class.  This is followed by performing midline insertion procedures in patients under the supervision of a clinician experienced in midline insertions. The number of supervised procedures required and the qualifications of the preceptor is dependent on the healthcare organization's policies and procedures.

After becoming independent in performing midline insertion procedures with a preceptor, meeting policy requirements of the clinician's employing organization, clinicians are deemed qualified to perform midline insertion procedures.
